Afghans for Angels is an organization made up completely of volunteers who make and deliver baby blankets to local hospitals to give to parents who have suffered the loss of their infant through miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death. Our "Afghans for Angels" are placed lovingly around these infant angels when they are held by their families for the brief time in which bittersweet hellos and sad good-byes are said. The parents are then allowed to keep these afghans as a token of remembrance of their baby. Just having something soft to hold is often comforting. http://www.angelfire.com/ia2/AforApage2/
American Red Cross helps prepare communities for emergencies and keep people safe every day thanks to caring people who support our work. http://www.redcross.org/
Binky Patrol officially began in Laguna Beach, California in May, 1996 with founder, Susan Finch putting a sign up sheet in front of her retail business. From its initial 5 volunteers, Binky Patrol has grown to over 160 chapters and and estimated 20,000 volunteers nationwide ranging in age from four to 94 thanks to the help of exposure on the Oprah Winfrey Show in June of 1996 Family Circle in 1998 and a truckload of media coverage from regional television, radio and newspaper ever since. http://www.binkypatrol.org/index.cfm
God's Tiny Angels - Every day across the world there are babies born ill or in need. Some of God's babies have little more than a tiny diaper. Imagine what you could do to make their new lives a little warmer! Our home on the web has been blessed by others that have sewn, crocheted, quilted, knitted and even went out to yard sales for the little ones. Gods Tiny Angels is an all volunteer group that provides items to Cabell Huntington Hospital in WV and elsewhere across the country, free, to the parents. Help make a difference today. Tomorrow will bring more of God's Tiny Angels. http://danettesangels.tripod.com/home.html
Head Huggers distributes the caps to hospitals, oncology offices, hospices, etc. so that they can more readily be available to those who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy. But to make it work, I need volunteers to help with the production and distribution. Won't you consider joining me? http://www.headhuggers.org/
Knitters and Crocheters for Newborns: Caps to the Capital project was spun from people like you. News reports around Mother’s Day on Save the Children’s State of the World’s Mothers 2006 report highlighted the fact that many of the 2 million babies who die each year in the first 24 hours of life in developing countries could be saved by simple, cost-effective measures – like putting a cap on a newborn baby’s head. Knitters and crocheters asked what they could do to help, and Save the Children responded by teaming up with the Warm-Up America! Foundation, a charity dedicated to providing knitted and crocheted items to people in need. http://www.savethechildren.org/publications/capstothecapital-kit11.pdf
Miracles Happen is a network of volunteers who make and distribute handmade items for a newborn baby’s early needs. Sometimes, when a woman is pregnant, she experiences feelings of confusion, she may feel scared, or helpless. Her whole world is changing and she doesn't know what to do. Many women have their own resources (family, friends, medical professionals) to turn to in this time of need. But many do not. Staff at pregnancy crisis centers are there to listen to these women, to share their concerns, and to offer real hope for their future. http://www.miracleshappen.us/
Online Angels sends loveghan boxes to those who are seriously ill or have suffered a tragic loss. We also send our boxes of love to heroes, veterans and more. Prayer Shawl Ministries - Whether they are called Prayer Shawls, Comfort Shawls, Peace Shawls, or Mantles, etc., the shawl maker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient. The intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. Upon completion, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way. Some recipients have continued the kindness by making a shawl and passing it onto someone in need. Thus, the blessing ripples from person-to-person, with both the giver and receiver feeling the unconditional embrace of a sheltering, mothering God!- http://www.shawlministry.com/
Project Angel Kisses is a ministry, built on a foundation of faith and prayer, to help meet the very special needs of precious preemies and full-term babies whose parents are in need of help. We want each family to know, without a doubt, that there are people who love their tiny angels, are praying for them, and want to help by crocheting, knitting, quilting, and sewing hats, booties, afghans, mitts, angel layettes (burial layettes), diaper shirts, gel pillowcases, etc. We have a LOT of fun and make cherished friendships as we make angel gifts for "our babies." - http://project-angel-kisses.150m.com/index.html
Project Linus National Headquarters is located in Bloomington, Illinois. National President Carol Babbitt, and Vice President Mary Balagna, both full time volunteers, direct and orchestrate the activities of Project Linus chapters located across the United States. Both have been involved with the organization since late 1998, as chapter coordinators and now as directors and officers. They also maintain a very busy Central Illinois chapter, donating an average of 350 blankets every month to local children. With chapters in all 50 states, Project Linus continues to grow. Blankets are collected locally and distributed to children in hospitals, shelters, social service agencies, or anywhere that a child might be in need of a big hug. http://www.projectlinus.org/index.shtml
Save the Children is the leading independent organization creating lasting change for children in need in the United States and around the world. St Jude Children's Research Hospital is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility anywhere. Discoveries made here have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. We are where some of today's most gifted researchers are able to do more science, more quickly. Where doctors across the world send their toughest cases and most vulnerable patients. Where no one pays for treatment beyond what is covered by insurance, and those without insurance are never asked to pay. We've built America's 3rd-largest health-care charity, with a model that keeps the costs down and the funds flowing, so the science never stops. All patients accepted for treatment at St. Jude are treated without regard to the family's ability to pay. http://www.stjude.org/
Victory Junction Gang Camp proudly opened its doors in June of 2004! The Camp was founded by Kyle and Pattie Petty, in honor of their son Adam. In 1999, after participating in a motorcycle ride to Camp Boggy Creek in Florida, the Petty family felt inspired to build a camp in North Carolina. The Victory Junction Gang Camp is a member of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps. Actor Paul Newman started the first camp, the Hole in the Wall Gang, in 1988 and has been a driving force in the Association ever since. Victory Junction Gang Camp operates solely on the donations of wonderful corporations, organizations and individuals. Children that attend Victory Junction would not otherwise be able to attend a camp because of their medical needs. Victory Junction is a year-round camp that serves children, ages 7 to 15, with a variety of health issues. During the summer we offer week long disease specific sessions with up to 125 kids per session. During the Fall, Winter and Spring we offer family weekends with up to 32 families per weekend. The children we serve may have any of the following health issues: arthritis, asthma, cancer, epilepsy, hemophilia, immunology deficiencies/HIV, sickle cell disease, spina bifida, gastrointestinal disease, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, neurological disease, skin disease, burn survivors, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, autism, craniofacial anomalies, physical disabilities, kids on vents, transverse myelitis. Victory Junction now serves North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, with approximately 15% of campers coming from other parts of the country. http://www.victoryjunction.org/aa_home/index.html
JOIN THE VICTORY JUNCTION GANG CAMP SEWING GROUP - While at Victory Junction, each camper sleeps in a bed that is covered with a hand-made quilt. They also take home a hand-made afghan and a hand-made teddy bear. With our plans to serve 125 campers at each of our 9 week-long sessions this summer and our camper weekends, that's a lot of bears and afghans. There is no time like the present to begin making these camp treasures! We are in DESPERATE need of more checkered bears! Our campers love them and we want to make sure every camper will have one to take home. http://www.victoryjunction.org/aa_help/help07_sewing.html
